'The House of Doors' is the first monograph on the work of Sigefride Bruna Hautman. The book offers a visual overview of the extensive oeuvre that Hautman has developed since the 1980s.

Hautman’s sculptures, installations, collages and videos are brought together in large numbers for the first time, and contextualised by a variety of archival materials – a significant selection of which belongs to her personal (photo) archive. The works are presented in such a way that patterns and connections between them become visible, casting new light on the thematic depth of Hautman’s oeuvre.

The book stands alone from the exhibition at M and is a compelling document of a unique artistic practice. However, an array of installation shots also makes it a beautiful and lasting companion to the show.

As in Hautman’s oeuvre, language plays an important role in 'The House of Doors. Four texts – three essays by, respectively, curator Valerie Verhack, Melanie Bühler and Luk Lambrecht, and a conversation between Patrizia Dander and Sigefride Bruna Hautman –provide insight into the works and situate Hautman’s practice within the contemporary art field.

The first copy of the book will be presented to the artist on 19 June during a special programme. Host Marcel Vanthilt will be in conversation with artists Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven and Tom Puckey, fashion entrepreneur Geert Bruloot, and psychologist Ann Buysse about the art, fashion and music scenes of the 1980s and ‘90s.
