Studying in a museum

M will welcome students in June

From Monday 13 June to Sunday 26 June, M Leuven will change into a pop-up study space. Or at least one of the halls will. This has been an annual custom since 2015 where M welcomes students to use its space to study for the exams. You can study here every day from 9 am to 6 pm, including weekends. The museum itself can only be visited during opening hours.

"More and more students are looking for places where they can study together. Libraries have been opening their doors for many years but alternative venues such as theatres are now also following this trend. With their relaxing white walls, M's rooms are the perfect stimulus-free place to study. When they need a break, students can enjoy the exhibitions or join one of the activities such as chair yoga in the garden," says Denise Vandevoort, alderman for culture and chair of M's board of directors.

Sofie Vermeiren, head of public mediation at M, adds: "The opening hours and activities of 'M Crams' gives you regularity while studying. Students say they have less stress if they do not have to think about the structure of the day, which improves their ability to concentrate. The students are also less distracted. Smartphones and laptops are allowed as long as the sound is turned off. Studying together provides a network of support in a stressful period that can be emotionally draining. When you study together, you face the same challenge together: the next exam. Shared sorrow is half sorrow, isn't it?"
