M-resident Niels Poiz exhibits his work
Presentation of the work during the M-residency

For four months, M resident Tom Hallet has been a guest at the M studio in Cas-co. M's residency offers emerging artists the opportunity to focus on their art in the best conditions and with expert guidance. Poiz (born 1991 in Torhout) is a visual artist who during his residency worked on coming-of-age themes, communication strategies and the influence of popular culture on the use of language and the way young people and adults think. The end of his residency has now been turned into two exhibition dates on 11.02 and 25.02.
Experimenting and building
“During my M residency, I was able to devote myself fully to my artistic practice. I experimented with posters, videos, performances as well as sculptures and publications. I take my inspiration from pop songs, films, cyber culture and advertising. I then build a scenography around that with sculptures, drawings and installations. I could rely on the guidance, expertise and support of M. Thanks to this research, once these exhibitions are done, I can get back to work” says M resident Niels Poiz.
“The residency allows emerging artists the chance to focus on their art under ideal conditions and with expert guidance,” concludes the chair of M Leuven and alderman for culture Bert Cornillie. “Our experts provide technical support, help with communication and budget planning as well as putting artists in touch with curators and collectors. This allows them to take their career a step forward in peace.”
Two exhibitions
The result of the research can be seen in the form of an intimate one-on-one performance in which Poiz experiments with archiving, intertextuality and the action of recitation itself. Niels Poiz's residency ends with these two exhibitions and he passes the torch to a new M-resident starting in mid-March: Anna van der Ploeg.
The performance is titled "Do You Have Some Time?" and will take place at M Leuven on Saturday 11 February and Saturday 25 February, from 14:00 to 17:00 on each occasion. Just buy a standard entry ticket to M for one of those two days and you can come along.
