M Leuven receives - with a minor delay - an award for most remarkable exhibition of 2019

On 30 April, Pieter Vermeersch and curator Eva Wittocx will receive AICA’s prize for the most remarkable exhibition of 2019. The prize is awarded by the Belgian Association of Art Critics and the award ceremony will take place at 5pm in the Art Lounge during Art Brussels and is followed by a reception.
Time, space and colour as building blocks
Art critic Maud Salembier will give an eulogy to M Leuven’s solo exhibition that consisted of an overview of the oeuvre and new work of Pieter Vermeersch.
In March 2019, M Leuven opened a solo exhibition of contemporary artist Pieter Vermeersch (born 1973, Kortrijk). "M has a tradition of regularly devoting solo exhibitions to a Belgian artist who is underexposed here," says Denise Vandevoort, alderman for culture and chairwoman of M's board of directors.
Eva Wittocx, Head of Department for Contemporary Art at M, says: "The exhibition showed a selective overview of his oeuvre and placed that in the context of his new work. In addition to works with pieces from the M Collection, there were also murals on display. Pieter Vermeersch has worked with different media such as canvas, marble, photo, and existing architecture."
Most remarkable exhibition
AICA, the Belgian Association of Art Critics, awards the prize to an exhibition that has made a significant contribution to the current debate on art. In 2020, AICA members chose this exhibition as the most outstanding of 2019. The monograph published by Ludion that accompanied the exhibition contributed to the giving of this award. However, the award ceremony was postponed due to COVID-19.
Previously awarded exhibitions include 'Lili Dujourie' at S.M.A.K. and Mu.ZEE, 'James Lee Byars' at M HKA, and 'The Absent Museum' at WIELS.
